Dr Erich von Dietze

Profile

With significant experience working with people from different cultural and religious perspectives, and with a Phd in the philosophy of science, Erich is well versed in clarifying complex concepts. Erich has been employed in community settings as well as the higher education sector.

For 14 years Erich managed Murdoch University’s Research Ethics and Integrity portfolio. In this context he has extensive experience providing advice in human research ethics, animal ethics, research integrity, institutional research policy, and how these interact both nationally and internationally. He also has comprehensive experience supporting processes related to complaints or allegations. Erich has broad experience of wider ethics committees, panels and reviews, having been involved in research ethics since the mid-1990s as both member and manager of human and animal ethics committees as well as his background in the wider study of applied ethics.

Erich has won a number of awards for this work in ethics and philosophy including an Innovative Teaching Practice Award, a National ATEM / Campus Review Best Practice Award in Tertiary Education Management for best practice in research ethics management, a Murdoch University Vice Chancellor’s award for Excellence in Professional Service, and the 2020 Murdoch University Senate medal for his service to the university’s research ethics and integrity.

Erich has been a frequent presenter at workshops, panels and conferences including the Australasian Ethics Network conferences, the Australian & New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching (ANZCCART) conferences as well as speaking at other professional events.

Consultancy Experience

Erich has provided advice on ethics and integrity within the higher education sector.  He has also advised government bodies and community organisations on matters of ethics and integrity. He has performed a lead role in enabling local organisations across different sectors to develop coherent and integrated approaches to common complex ethical problems. He has been a member and chair of review panels especially in the higher education sector.
