Dr Gary Allen is the principal author of the Griffith University Research Ethics Manual (GUREM) a booklet-based resource manual written for Griffith University’s researchers, research ethics reviewers and research office staff. Griffith University commercialised the manual and sold licenses to over a dozen Australian research institutions. Licensees could copy and modify the GUREM to produce their own REM.
In recent years AHRECS has assisted a few clients to produce, implement and enjoy the best results from their own REM.
This work has included:
(i) rebranding the manual in terms of name, logo, colours and fonts to match the institution’s corporate identity;
(ii) changing position titles, role and contact details as relevant to the institution;
(iii) changing policy details and links as relevant to the institution;
(iv) updating State/Territory details and links as relevant to the institution;
(v) producing an issues paper discussing notable policy differences between the REM and the institution;
(vi) providing a paper/recommendations with regard to implementation and change management; and
(vii) providing a paper/recommendations that proposes the ways in which institutions can get the best results from using their own REM.
