(Canada) Patients ‘betrayed’ by Canadian researchers, advocate says of clinical trial probe – CTV News (Avis Favaro | November 2023)
Sadly, while disgusting, these results from Canada are not surprising, and we suspect would be true of most jurisdictions globally. The failure to publish the results of clinical trials IS a betrayal of trial participants, puts lives at risk, and is incredibly wasteful. Clinical trial sponsors have a conflict of interest if they are allowed to decide if the results of the trial could be published, because there is a definite financial incentive for them only to publish positive results about their medical agents. It is time that national bodies, institutions and publications to take this issue seriously. A failure to publish results is a serious form of misconduct and should be treated us such. Even though the decision not to publish is likely to have been made by a sponsor, the researchers and the host institution are facilitators.
