Prominent University of Queensland economist Paul Frijters has resigned from his position at the institution, which pursued him for years following the release of a study that revealed racist tendencies among Brisbane bus drivers.

Professor Frijters was last week successful in overturning charges of research misconduct, after the Fair Work Commission ruled the process undertaken by the university “was infected by error from so early” that the entire procedure would need to be started again.

A spokeswoman said the university had “yet to communicate” with Professor Frijters or his lawyers, and declined to comment on the possibility it would again investigate the issue.
