Does the agenda of your local research ethics committee contain a standard item for the disclosure and discussion of Conflicts of interests? If not perhaps suggest that would be good practice. In many cases the size of an institution and/or the uniqueness of a research design might demand a careful reflection on the specifics of a situation, but the committee MUST discuss any potential conflict and the decision MUST be minuted.
