When it comes to recruitment and consent strategies in human research, some research ethics review bodies can focus almost exclusively on the consent form.  In its worst form, such reviews are dominated by discussions about “does it follow the template” and proofreading matters.  While this Don Mayne cartoon is decidedly no woke it touches on matters just as important as the form.

  1. Time pressure.
  2. Humiliation and awareness of participation.
  3. Potential participant’s health and welfare.
  4. The context of the recruitment and how it might influence potential participants.
