Institutions really should have standard arrangements and enabling services in place to provide for situations where the potential participant for a project has special needs that mean they might not be able to access, understand and/or complete a consent mechanism. People who live with a disability should not be excluded from participating in research – if for no other reason that their exclusion might remove an important perspective from the results and undermine the impact of a research output.
