An icon of a hand cradling paw prints.

It is welcome to see the McGowan WA Government taking the foreshadowed step of establishing an animal welfare advisory committee.  A commitment to animal welfare and transparent steps to safeguard it must be central to our approach to research/teaching, farming, wildlife preservation, breeding and housing and domestic use.  We look forward to hearing more. about the important work of this committee.

  • McGowan Government delivers on election commitment to establish an Animal Welfare Advisory Committee
  • Committee to provide advice on the care, use and treatment of animals
  • Members provide a diversity of expertise and experience

The McGowan Government has established the State’s Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, ensuring Western Australia’s animal welfare system meets modern community and scientific expectations.

The committee was an election commitment of the McGowan Government and will provide independent advice to the Agriculture and Food Minister and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development on animal welfare matters.

The committee’s role will cover the provision of advice on animal welfare policy, legislation, regulations and standards, community education, training standards for animal welfare inspectors and research.
