Funding bodies, publications and research institutions are urging researchers to share their data. Last year, Nik Zeps and I wrote about the degree to which there is an ethical argument for the sharing of data. It is therefore disappointing to see research ethics considerations being blamed as the reason data is not being shared. Researchers and research ethics review bodies should plan in advance and embed data sharing in the design of projects and into consent strategies. We have included links to nine related items.
